Lineup of Spring Break Culture Days for Tribal Youths Announced

Cow Creek Tribal youths have an opportunity this Spring Break to reconnect with their Cow Creek Tribal ancestry and traditions when the Cultural Resources Team hosts a series of cultural learning events.

Spring Break Culture Days will take place between Tuesday, March 22 and Thursday, March 24, when most local public schools are on Spring Break.

The Cultural Resources Program has announced the lineup of events for the days, including:

Tuesday, March 22: Learn Traditional Games and Win Prizes!

  • South Umpqua Falls, 9AM-4PM
  • Group will meet at Seven Feathers Casino Resort south parking lot prior to transport to South Umpqua Falls
  • Tribal youths will learn to play shinny, dice, stick game and atlatl shooting — prizes can be won!
  • Food will be provided for the group

Wednesday, March 23: Block Party with Wili Housing

  • Block Party from 10AM-2PM at Wili Housing Neighborhood in Myrtle Creek (239 Taylor Street)
  • Learn about careers with Cow Creek, continuing education, and other Tribal programs as well as demonstrations of cultural skills such as flint knapping
  • Food will be available on site

Thursday, March 24: Arts and Takelma Language Learning

  • Located in the Board Room of the North Building of the Tribal Government Offices in Roseburg (2371 NE Stephens Street)
  • In the morning learn how to make clacker sticks
  • In the afternoon, learn more about Takelma from Cow Creek Takelma Language Learner and Tribal member Elizabeth Bryant
  • Food will be provided for the group
