EHYC Summer STEAM classes include cooking, Takelma, robotics, more
Enhance childhood learning this summer with the Expanding Youth Horizons Center (EHYC) annual Summer STEAM Program.
The schedule of classes this year includes cooking classes with Cow Creek Health & Wellness Center dieticians, Takelma language lessons with the Cow Creek Education team, soap making, copper working, and even robotics with instructors from Umpqua Community College.
STEAM (sometimes known as STEM) stands for: science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. It’s a learning discipline that connects education and everyday life with critical thinking and problem solving skills as students prepare for higher education and careers. The EHYC has been an early adopter of STEAM, often incorporating it into daily learning lessons.
Summer STEAM classes will be held most Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11AM-3PM, beginning June 21, at the Tribal Community Center in Myrtle Creek. Classes are for Cow Creek Tribal children in grades 3-12. Registration is required in order to attend. Transportation options are available, please call/email to ask.
Students are encouraged to register for one class or for all. Most weeks there will be field trip as part of the lessons, and transportation is provided.
