HELPFUL LINKS:
Be Sure You’re Prepared
The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians is dedicated to the safety of its members and the surrounding communities. As a result, it planned for and developed natural hazard mitigation goals, strategies and objectives which fully coordinate with the Tribe’s Mission Statement. This allows the Tribe to protect its people, property, natural environment, and economic vitality while upholding its sovereignty, identity, and self-governance.
Disasters can happen anywhere and at any time. Some are due to natural causes such as flooding, wind storms, wildfire, and earthquakes; others are caused by the destructive activities of individuals or groups.
The Tribe advocates personal preparedness and encourages its members and tenants to take advantage of the information available on this site. The links here provided are to give you needed information prior to, during, and after a disaster, so that you and your loved ones (including pets) will survive in the case of a major natural or other disaster.
Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador™
The Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador™ initiative is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) effort to formally recognize NOAA partners who are improving the nation’s readiness, responsiveness, and overall resilience against extreme weather, water, and climate events. As a WRN Ambassador, partners commit to working with NOAA and other Ambassadors to strengthen national resilience against extreme weather. In effect, the WRN Ambassador initiative helps unify the efforts across government, non-profits, academia, and private industry toward making the nation more ready, responsive, and resilient against extreme environmental hazards. Weather-Ready Nation (WRN) is a strategic outcome where society’s response should be equal to the risk from all extreme weather, water, and climate hazards.
The WRN Ambassador initiative is a:
- Unifying effort;
- Action-oriented;
- Inclusive; and Force multiplier (i.e., new partnerships lead to even more partnership opportunities).
Hazard Mitigation Plan™
The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians’ Hazard Mitigation Team has been working on updating the Tribal Hazard Mitigation Plan since early 2017. The Hazard Mitigation Plan helps to identify hazards and risks and develops strategies and priorities for mitigating the threats through strategic planning and projects.
