Water & Environmental Resources Program

The Tribe’s Water and Environmental Resources Program (WERP) works throughout the Tribe’s Ancestral Territory in the Umpqua and Rogue River Basins. Within our program, we have an Environmental Specialist, a Fisheries Biologist and seasonal technicians. We partner with federal and state agencies, watershed counsels, private landowners, and other non-profit organizations on restoration and enhancement work. Our work includes:

  • Aquatic instream and riparian restoration to benefit native species and watershed ecological processes
  • Wetland identification, delineation, monitoring and conservation
  • Invasive plant species eradication
  • Planting of native species
  • Water quality and hydrologic monitoring
  • Fisheries surveys
  • Winter steelhead smolt acclimations to enhance the winter steelhead sport fishery in the South Umpqua River
  • Pacific lamprey research and conservation
